Twardzik, Argall Announce Nearly $1 Million Awarded to Enhance Schuylkill Haven Electric Grid

HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-Schuylkill) and Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) are pleased to announce that the Borough of Schuylkill Haven has been awarded $994,746 through the Pennsylvania Grid Resilience Grants to enhance the reliability and resiliency of its electric grid. The funding will allow the borough to purchase an Advanced Metering Infrastructure and Supervisory Control Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, providing real-time data and improving response times to power outages.

“This nearly $1 million investment in Schuylkill Haven will strengthen the borough’s electric infrastructure and improve reliability for residents, businesses and emergency services,” said Twardzik. “By supporting advanced technology that allows for faster detection and response to outages, this funding helps ensure our community is better prepared and more resilient moving forward.”

“Reliable electricity is something every family, business, and first responder depends on every day,” said Argall. “This highly competitive funding will give Schuylkill Haven the tools to quickly respond to outages, strengthen its local grid, and better serve the community. Modernizing our infrastructure like this is critical to keeping our communities safe, competitive, and prepared for the future.”

The Pennsylvania Grid Resilience Grants program, funded under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, aims to strengthen electric grid infrastructure across the state. The borough’s new system will enhance monitoring and control capabilities, helping prevent outages and increase overall grid resiliency for the community.

The program is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, and this funding is part of the program’s second round of grants. All awards are pending confirmation by the U.S. Department of Energy.
